A major milestone on the road to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will take place on September 3 (Tuesday) with the launch of the official emblem for the first footballing extravaganza to be hosted in the Middle East.
The emblem will be unveiled digitally at 20:22hrs Doha time across all Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) – bodies responsible for the delivery of infrastructure and host country planning and operations for historic Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup – and the football governing body FIFA platforms. Jumbo screens and iconic buildings across the world will display the unveiling of the emblem.
In Qatar, the emblem will be projected on a number of iconic buildings namely – Katara, Souq Waqif, Doha Sheraton Hotel and at the Torch Hotel.
Similarly many places in the Arab world will come aglow with the emblem at the same time- in Kuwait (Kuwait Towers), in Oman (Oman Opera House), in Lebanon (Al Rawsha Rock), in Jordan (le Royal Amman Hotel), in Iraq (Baghdad Tower), in Tunisia (Hammamat City), in Algeria (Algeria Opera House), and in Morocco (Al Rebat Cornish).
The emblem will also be reflected on iconic locations of the world including Argentina (General Paz 15 de Agosto, Buenos Aires), Brazil (metro Domination Se Station, Sao Paulo), Chile (Av Kennedy/Padre Hurtado, Santiago), England (Westfield Stratford City/Four Dials, Westfield Square@Westfield London, Canary Wharf and at Leicester Square), in France (Gare du Nord, Paris), Germany (Berlin Railway Station), India (Babulnath Junction, Mumbai), Italy (Sempione, Arco della pace, Milano), Mexico (Principal streets in Mexico City), Russia (Noviy Arbat 2, Moscow), South Africa (Alice Lane, Sandton, Johannesburg), South Korea (Coex Crown, Seoul), Spain (Callao, Madrid), Turkey (City screens across ten districts including Yildz, Zuharatbaba, Bahcesehir Kism, Tasdelen, Mimar sinan, Caferaga, Harbiye, Merkez, Barbarros and Levazim), and in the United States of America (Times Square, Broadway between 44th and 45th F/W, New York).
Meanwhile, FIFA is also running a contest for the FIFA World Cup Greatest Emblem till September 2. You can take part in the voting on the official FIFA World Cup Twitter account to find your favourite, spanning from 1930 through to 2018.
The first of five preliminary matches is Switzerland 1954 against Sweden 1958. The bracket progresses into a Round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals. The final will take place on September 1, with the winner to be announced the following day when the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 emblem is unveiled.
