Bayern Munich executive board member Jorg Wacker says the club has a great partnership with Qatar.
Wacker, who is in charge of Bayern’s internationalisation and strategy, said while speaking to journalists at the Allianz Arena here on Saturday.
“We always try to find partners we can work with and Qatar is a great example of that. We have a strong partnership.
“We have been working together for a long time and the team will probably be in Doha for the annual winter tour. Everybody knows Qatar Airways is branded on the side of our shirts, so we are really happy with the partnership,” Wacker said.
Bayern Munich are entering a new era after the announcement of the resignation of club legend and president Uli Hoeness on Friday. The 67-year-old will be replaced by Oliver Khan, another Bayern legend. The former goalkeeper will begin his new role as president in January 2020.
On Hoeness’s resignation and the impact on the club, Wacker said, “I think it’s not the right time for me to talk about him. For me he’s always with us. He was in charge when I joined the club, he’s still on the board.”
Hoeness had 239 appearances for Bayern from 1970-79. He is responsible for the great success the club has witnessed in the last 40 years on and off the field. The club also enjoyed a rise in revenue and built a stadium -- the Allianz Arena owned by the club in 2005.
The Bavarian have won 24 Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League under the influencial president, who will step down on November 15.
Bayern’s success over the years puts the club among the best and biggest in Europe.
The club has over 290,000 members who are also owners of the of the club, no other club has similar numbers numbers.
It also has over 4000 fan clubs and the Allianz Arena which opened in 2005 for an estimated 340 million euros is always sold out.
“We have core values like sustainability. We are earning and spending our money. We are profitable for the last 27 years which is very important. Every home game is sold out at the Allianz Arena, it shows how special we are,”
Wacker said.
