London: Carlos Alcaraz ended his 13-month wait for another ATP 1000 final with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the last four of the Monte Carlo Masters. Four-time grand-slam champion Alcaraz lost at the same stage in Indian Wells to Jack Draper last month, but progressed after a two-hour-and-10-minute battle on Court Rainier III. Alcaraz was forced to go through a first-set tie-break after he failed to serve for the set at 5-3, but edged out Davidovich Fokina before a decisive break in the second helped set up a showdown on Sunday with Lorenzo Musetti. Victory at the Rotterdam Open in February remains Alcaraz’s only title of 2025, but a sixth Masters triumph would help the Spaniard return to number two in the world. Musetti stands in the way of Alcaraz, who last won an ATP 1000 event at Indian Wells last March, after the Italian came through a three-setter with Alex De Minaur 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). (PA Media/DPA)
