Moscow: The Kremlin has said it expects more than 20 national leaders to attend this year’s Victory Day military parade on May 9, commemorating 80 years since the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.

“We are happy to see all those who are ready to celebrate this grandiose date with us,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday, stressing the the importance of the event.

He criticized the rhetoric of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who had warned EU leaders against attending the Victory Day Parade on Moscow’s Red Square. Kallas said the EU would not consider this a trivial matter in light of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Moscow considers Kallas’ “harsh statements” to be wrong, Peskov said, expressing confidence that not all EU countries accepted such language. (DPA)
