BerlincTypeface:> Thomas Muller must be in Bayern Munich’s starting 11 in Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final return leg at Inter Milan, former Bayern and Germany captain Lothar Matthaus has said. “He must play, anything else is impossible from my point of view,” Matthaus said in his Sky TV column. “If (Vincent) Kompany doesn’t field Muller and things go wrong the coach, who has done a great job over the past months, will feel the heat.” Bayern have to make up a 2-1 deficit at San Siro. Muller did not start last week in Munich but came on and scored the temporary equalizer. He then started in Saturday’s 2-2 Bundesliga draw with Borussia Dortmund. The two games came after the announcement that Muller’s contract would not be renewed after the season and that he will leave after 25 years at Bayern where he has played 745 matches and won 33 trophies. Muller, 35, who has only played sporadically in the past months, is one option to replace the injured Jamal Musiala up front. The nearing end of his time at the club makes the issue even more delicate. (dpa)
