Al Sadd SC and Al Nassr will have reinforcements available when they face off in the second leg of the 2019 AFC Champions League quarter-final on Monday.
Al Nassr will go into the tie at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha protecting a 2-1 lead in what promises to be an epic encounter between the league champions of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Both had good news to celebrate during the international break with midfielder Nam Tae-hee having resumed training for Qatar Stars League champions Al Sadd while Moroccan forward Abderrazak Hamdallah saw game time for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League clash against Al Shabab on Friday.
South Korea’s Nam, 28, sustained a muscle injury during last month’s Sheikh Jassim Cup tie against Al Duhail but is back in the squad and could be in the running for a place in the starting lineup against Al Nassr.
If Nam is match-fit, Al Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez may be tempted to start with the midfielder to help Al Sadd seal a semi-final berth.
Spaniard Xavi also welcomed the return of 11 players who were with the Qatar squad for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers’ ties against Afghanistan and India.
Korea’s Jung Woo-young and Algeria’s Baghdad Bounedjah also reported back after featuring for their respective nations during the international break.
Al Nassr, meanwhile, were boosted by forward Hamdallah making his return in their 0-0 draw with Al Shabab in Saudi Pro League action on Friday.
The Moroccan, last year’s Saudi Pro League top scorer with 34 goals, twisted his ankle in the opening league match of the season against Damac – which ruled him out of the first leg of the 2019 AFC Champions League quarter-final.
The 28-year-old will be a welcome addition and Riyadh-based Al Nassr will be hoping he adds to the tally of three goals in the AFC Champions League this year as the Saudi champions seek a first ever appearance in the Continental semi-finals.
