Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al Thani has stressed the importance of holding the "Doha 2019 Inter-regional Sports Integrity Summit” which began on Monday in the presence of a large number of prominent international personalities and delegation.
He noted that the summit aims to focus of basic principles that contribute to providing a safe and free
of corruption sports environment.
The summit is organised by the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) and Qatar Airways in cooperation with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) and supported by Qatar Chamber.
In press statement, Sheikh Khalifa said that there is a robust relation between sports and economy, noting that the integration between sport activities and economic interests has made sports achieve high ranks in the social life of people and government.
He said the summit is significantly based on many economic pillars, assuring that sports nowadays is one of the most important pillars of economy in most countries.
"Sports plays a key and active role in economic development for many countries. It represented an investment stimuli for attracting more investments and establishing more businesses,” he added.
Expressing Qatar’s pride to be the first Arab and Middle East country to host the World Cup, affirming that selecting Qatar to host the most important sports event was not a coincidence, it is a result of collective efforts made by all bodies in the country backed by a solidarity of Qatar’s government and people for preparing an edition that befits Qatar’s name and prestige.
Sheikh Khalifa said that Qatar’s preparation for the World Cup 2022 are on the full swing, stressing
that the country is keenly interested in providing a secured and stable sports environment.
Qatar has adopted all leading principles and values in sports integration and has adopted the best practices to ensure the implementation of these values, he added.
