Jordan and the Netherlands signed a 31 million Euro grant agreement on Thursday, marking a strategic step to strengthen water security in theKingdom.

The grant, provided by the Dutch government, will help finance part of Jordan’s National Water Carrier Project, which aims to transport water from Aqaba to Amman.

The project is designed to provide sustainable solutions to the country’s water shortages by desalinating 300 million cubic meters of water. It also addresses the impacts of climate change and aims to meet the needs of nearly 4 million Jordanians.

As one of the largest desalination and infrastructure projects in the region, it will also contribute to replenishing Jordan’s depleted groundwater and surface water basins, thereby improving long-term water sustainability.
