French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of lying after a deadly Russian overnight strike on Kiev.
“When President Putin talks to American negotiators, he tells them: ‘I want peace.’ When he talks to the whole world, he says: ‘I want peace,’” Macron said during a visit to Madagascar.
But, the French president said, Putin “continues to bomb Ukraine.”
Macron said Putin should finally stop lying, adding that the world was waiting to see if the Russian leader would agree to an unconditional ceasefire.
The United States has proposed one, the Europeans have supported it and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said “yes,” he said.
“If President Putin says ‘yes,’ the weapons will fall silent.” The French president said he had also told Trump during a telephone conversation two days ago that a peace deal depended entirely on Putin. (DPA)
