Rome: The Bayesian superyacht that sank off the coast of Sicily is due to be raised from the seabed on Wednesday after a delay of several days, according to the ANSA news agency.

The 473-tonne vessel sank near the small port of Porticello last August, claiming the lives of seven people.

The operation to raise it is highly complicated. It was initially due to start on Sunday.

Despite being marketed as “unsinkable,” the 56-metre yacht went down during a storm, sparking ongoing speculation about the circumstances of the disaster.

Among the victims were British software billionaire Mike Lynch, 59, his 18-year-old daughter, two couples who were friends of the family and the ship’s cook. All other crew members survived.

Prosecutors hope the salvage will shed light on what caused the yacht to sink. (DPA)
