The third Gulf Lights Cricket Tournament began at the Losail Cricket Complex with one-sided wins posted by sponsors team Gulf Lights and Al Fardan.
AR Sanaullah, Managing Director of Gulf Lights, inaugurated the tournament in presence of Qatar Veterans Cricket officials, players and match officials.
In the inaugural match, Gulf Lights proved too strong crushing Milaha by five wickets with more than eight overs to go. Batting first in windy conditions, Milaha had problems in working away the rival bowlers. After losing wickets regularly, they collapsed at 80 in 19.1 overs, with Imran (three for seven) and Shafi grabbing five wickets between them.
Vaibhav made 29 with three fours and was the only player to reach double figures.
Saad, Osama, Jawad and Shabbir shared four wickets. Shabbir ended the innings picking a wicket off his very first delivery.
In reply, Gulf Lights had a lightning start and race to the victory in 11.1 overs. Melwin smashed three sixes and a four in his breezy 28. He smashed Haneef for 21 runs in just one over. Omer and Asif contributed 11 runs each. Faheem and Vaibhav took two wickets, while Iqbal and Shadab got one apiece.
Melwin of Gulf Lights was declared the man of the match.
In the other match, Al Fardan defeated Ceylon Warriors by four wickets after Gazali claimed five wickets for just seven runs.
Ceylon Warriors, put in to bat first, scored 121 for seven. Chandana led the batting as he got 24 with two sixes. Pragash hit 16, while Rizan made 11 runs. Besides Gazali, Nehal picked two scalps.
Al Fardan cantered to the win in 10.2 overs though losing seven players. Shahbaz was in hot form, slamming four sixes and one four in 30 off 12 balls. Nehal’s 23 contained three sixes and a boundary while Yasir was not out on 22, including two sixes and a four.
Pragash, Saman and Kokila shared six wickets.
Gazali of Al Fardan was adjudged the man of the match.
