A superb all-round show from Afsarullah Obaidullah was the highlight for Qatar as they humbled Maldives by 223 runs in their opening Group B match of the Asian Cricket Council ACC U-16 Western Region 2019 Championship at the Al Amerat cricket ground in Oman on Wednesday.
Obaidullah first made a lusty 45 as a lower-order batsman slamming five fours, and later rolled his arm over to claim five wickets.
Qatar, who won the toss, made a whopping 268 for 7 in their allotted 35 overs thanks to a 101-run partnership (10.5 overs) between Sai Shiva Satwik (33) and Dhanitha Sandesh (53). In reply, Maldives were bundled out for a paltry 45 in 20.5 overs. Besides Obaidullah, Hussain Shadhin picked three wickets for 39 runs.
Qatar will next play Kuwait on Thursday. Group A comprises UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Iran. Top two teams from each group will make the semi-s.
