Seven Doha-based Korean musicians showcased their talents during a concert titled ‘An Autumn Night of Classical Music” held in Katara Building16 on Tuesday.
The event was hosted by Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) in cooperation with the Embassy of Korea in Qatar.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of South Korea to Qatar HE Kim Chang-mo reiterated the strong relations between his country and Qatar.
He said the number of Korean cultural events to be hosted for the people in Qatar is in line with the ever-growing political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries.
“This year marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Qatar, and the relations have never been stronger. In January, the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani paid a successful visit to Korea, followed by Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon’s fruitful visit to Qatar in July. The 5th Qatar-Korea High-Level Strategic Cooperation Committee meeting, which convened in Doha two weeks ago, also reflected the strong bonds between Doha and Seoul,” the envoy said.
He added, “Korea is now widely known for its K-pop music, but at the same time, many Korean classical musicians have long been loved by classical music fans around the world. Seven musicians of tonight are Doha-based Korean proving their excellence. We are lucky to have them here.”
He also extended his appreciation to the support of Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti and Katara Manager of International Affairs Maryam Majed al Saad.
The music evening featured renowned pianist Sonja Park, who is also the co-founder of Moving Young Artist (MYA), which hosted the Qatar National Music Competition (QNMC) and the Founder of the International Chamber Music Concert Series for Peace and Unity supported by six diplomatic missions – the UK, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and France - which tries to bring people together through the power of music.
Also featured were Pianist Kim Nayoung, Flutist Lee Eunhye, Violinist Kim Taehyun, Bassonist Lee Juncheol, Flutist Shin Jihoon and Cellist Kim Jiyeon,
The programme opened with a performance of Beethoven Piano Trio in E-flat major and Nocturne and Allegro Scherzando by Philippe Gaubert. It concluded with a performance of Dong Jin Kim’s New Arirang.
