UNESCO Doha Office has become the latest partner of Qatari company Elite Paper Recycling (EPR) in advocating for environmental sustainability and recycling following the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) between the two parties on Monday.
The LoI that reaffirms commitment to the 2030 Agenda and Qatar National Vision 2030’s pillar on Environmental Development was signed by UNESCO Doha Director Anna Paolini and EPR Chairman Abdallah al Suwaidi.
Building upon the call to action by the global community to halt global warming, biodiversity loss and disruption of ecosystem services, UNESCO Doha Office is joining forces with a wide range of stakeholders to localise solutions and response to global challenges.
"It is a great pleasure to establish this collaboration with Elite Paper Recycling, one of the prominent local companies in Doha dedicated to bringing a positive change to the society and supporting the country’s effort to achieve its sustainability goals,” Paolini said.
The collaboration includes jointly enhancing knowledge on climate change, impact of pollution and biodiversity loss through Education for Sustainable Development. It also covers outreach and awareness campaigns for the civil society in collaboration with public and private sectors.
UNESCO Doha Office and EPR have also decided to join forces to promote Al Reem Biosphere Reserve as a learning and training hub to advocate for the importance of biodiversity conservation and promoting the values, behaviours and lifestyles required for a sustainable future and for positive societal transformation.
"We are very proud to partner with UNESCO and I firmly believe that our joint efforts will support the country in achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030 as well as the 2030 Agenda for United Nations Sustainable Development which includes ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns and taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, with special attention to target 13.3 on improving education, awareness raising, human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning,” said Suwaidi.
He also noted the impact of Green Diplomacy Programme launched by EPR earlier this year in building awareness towards the environment while contributing to the nation’s growing economy.
He added that EPR has set an aggressive communication strategy based on CSR/public awareness for environment and recycling.
Suwaidi also mentioned the launch of the ‘Eco Dome’ Mega Event in few weeks which will serve as an edutainment tool to raise awareness towards environment and the important of recycling in a very interesting way.
