AN array of award-winning films was screened and events for the whole family were held on the second day of Ajyal Film Festival 2019 at Katara Cultural Village on Tuesday.
Families and children were also entertained by a special screening of Hiromasa Yonebayashi’s The Secret World of Arrietty (Japan/2010) at Katara Building 18 at 4pm. The animated cult classic tells the story of four-inch-tall Arrietty, who lives in a suburban home with her family and forms a secret friendship with 12-year old Shawn.
An exclusive panel discussion on ‘Storytelling & The Qatari Identity’was held where artists shared the unique insight and creative foundations of their works. The panel was moderated by AbdulazizYousef and featured Qatari artists Ibrahim al Baker, Buthaina al Zaman and Roda Ahmad al Thani.
ARC is open to the public from 10am to 10pm. The exhibition invites visitors to follow the chronological path of narrative through multimedia art pieces divided into three distinct parts— Setup, Confrontation and Resolution.
Following its Middle East premier at the Ajyal 2019 Opening Night, a screening of Elia Suleiman’s It Must Be Heaven (France, Qatar, Germany, Canada, Turkey, Palestine/2019) was held at Novo Cinemas, the Pearl.
A thrilling selection of feature films that were screened throughout the day included SuhaibGasmelbari’s award-wining documentary Talking About Trees (France, Sudan, Germany, Chad, Qatar/2019); 1982 (Lebanon, US, Norway, Qatar/2019) by OualidMopaneseen; DFI-supported feature film Bombay Rose (India, France, UK, Qatar/2019) by GitanjaliRao; GintsZilbalodis’s Away (Latvia/2019); and The Land of Ashes (Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile, France/2019) by Sof?aQuir?sUbeda.
Tickets for the 7th Ajyal Film Festival are available for purchase at the Ajyal Main Box Office located in Katara Building 10; at the Ajyal Box Office at VOX Cinemas Doha Festival City for screenings taking place at VOX Cinemas; and from the Novo Cinemas Box Office for screenings at Novo Cinemas, the Pearl.
