THE South Korean Embassy in Qatar hosted an array of activities showcasing the community’s love for sports and rich culinary culture recently.
For sports enthusiasts, the embassy organised the Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship 2019 at Al Ghahafa Sports Club.
It was attended by South Korean Ambassador HE Kim Chang Mo, General Secretary of Qatar Taekwondo Judo & Karate Federation Eid AliAlmuraikhi, Director of Sport Affairs Dept in the Ministry of Culture & Sports Eisa Abdulla al Harami and Choi Sang hwan, director of Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters).
The event which saw participation of over a thousand people from across communities, in addition to diplomats was organised in collaboration with Qatar Taekwondo, Judo and Karate Federation and Kukkiwon team, a pioneer in globalising taekwondo as a leading martial art since the organisation, also known as the World Taekwondo Headquarters, was founded in 1972.
Composed of South Korea’s top 70 taekwondo practitioners, the team takes pride in spreading taekwondo and Korean culture as civilian diplomats. A delegation of 20 persons came to Doha for the event.
The embassy also hosted cooking classes attended by students of Qatar University, College of the North Atlantic-Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) as well as other expatriate communities.
The students were given lessons on preparing ‘Dosirak, which is a Korean word for packed lunch, Korean rice ball Jumeokbap, Korean dish made from cooked rice Gimbap and other delicacies.
