Qatar’s fast rising showjumping rider Salmeen Sultan al Suwaidi, who won his first HH Emir’s Sword for equestrian in 2018 – the same year when he also qualified for the World Equestrian Games, galloped into the thick of action of the Longines Qatar Equestrian Tour Hathab 2019-2020 at the grand Al Shaqab equestrian centre on Saturday.
Salmeen, who has missed the opening leg of the national series, rode to victory in the Big Tour’s Table A, One round against the clock with jump off (130/145cm) class to move into the top five of the overall points tally of the overall 12-leg competition series.
The 24-year-old Salmeen from Qatar Armed Forces excelled on his 19-year-old grey gelding Cantaro 32 with faultless and swift routines. He first clocked the round in 82.43secs but stood out in the Jump-off with a best time 33.19secs. Besides the valuable points, Salmeen was also rewarded QR8,750 as the top prize.
Finishing a shade behind was Saeed Nasser al Qadi on Daydreamer EC (also a bay gelding) in 34.37secs.
Hamad Ali al Attiyah, another seasoned rider ended up third on Bolandro (a bay stud) in 35.14secs.
The Open Class (Top Score Competition, Art. 270 | 110/115cm) saw Awad al Qahtani combine with Bellini D’Argonne to claim the most points (1300) in the least time of 78.99secs to finish as the best. Hamad Nasser al Qadi on Hugo Z was second, while Mohammed Abdulla Juma on Davidoff Du Bois finished third.
In the Future Riders’ Table A, Two Phases Art. 274.1.5.3| 85/100cm competition, Saleh Ibrahim al Hor riding Zaragossa emerged as the best.
In Future Riders’ Table A, Two phases, Art. 274.1.5.3 | 70/85cm class, Jassim Adel al Saegh on Joly’s Arno took the top prize.
Hamad Abdulrahman al Attiyah, President Qatar and Asian Equestrian Federations, and Chairman Organizing Committee Longines Hathab; Omar al Mannai, Vice-Chairman, Organizing Committee Longines Hathab, and Badr al Darwish, Secretary Qatari and Asian Equestrian Federations, and Member Organizing Committee Longines Hathab gave away the prizes.
Hamad Abdulrahman al Attiyah stressed on the success of the National equestrian series and the large participation due to the initiative of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al Thani, President, Qatar Olympic Committee.
He also thanked the sponsors for being a part of Hathab.
