Mohammad Rizlan’s 17-ball cameo set up an easy six-wicket victory for Falcon Hunters against table toppers Desert Riders in the Qatar T10 Cricket League as the action resumed after a day was lost to rain.
At the Asian Town Stadium on Wednesday, Falcon Hunters shackled the rivals with tight bowling in windy and cold conditions. Though they lost only two wickets, they could not go beyond 89 in the stipulated overs.
Falcon Hunters lost Hashim Amla (9) cheaply but new man Kamran Khan stimulated the chase with two sixes and a four in his five-ball 17. Rizlan put his foot on the gas and hammered 35 in just 17 balls.
Rizlan’s knock contained four sixes and a boundary before he was bowled by Ajay Lalcheta. He and skipper Salman Butt, who chose to play a waiting game, collected 41 runs for the third wicket.
Falcon Hunters lost Amad Butt for seven but the captain and Tamoor Sajjad completed the big win with 11 balls to spare.
Earlier, led by Iqbal Hussain Chaudhry, who gave away only five runs in his two overs, Falcon Hunters restricted Desert Riders with tight line and superb fielding. Saad Bin Zafar conceded only four runs in over and got a wicket, while Amad Butt’s two overs cost 14, Murad Khan was hit for 13 in one over and Sajjad got a wicket for 18 runs in his two overs.
Openers Mohammad Hafeez and Adnan Mirza helped Dream Riders get 17 runs, which included five byes and four leg byes, in the first over of Waqas Maqsood. But Falcon Hunters struck back and controlled the proceedings by removing Hafeez. Mirza could manage only six off 12 balls later.
