ExxonMobil Qatar and the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) have launched a series of promotional activities at a ribbon cutting ceremony that was held at Doha Festival City on Tuesday. The event marks the launch of activities for the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2020, which will take place at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex from January 6 to 11, 2020.
The event was attended by senior officials from ExxonMobil Qatar and Qatar Tennis Federation, including: Saleh al Mana, Vice President and Director of Government and Public Affairs for ExxonMobil Qatar; Tareq Zeinal, Secretary-General Assistant of Qatar Tennis Federation; and Karim Alami, Tournament Director.
ExxonMobil Qatar is inviting the general public to visit its stands and take part in the promotional activities at Doha Festival City, Novo Cinemas, The Pearl and Villaggio from December 15. Visitors can take part in some exciting and fun activities that have been developed around science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts.
“We’re delighted to launch promotional activities for the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2020 with our partner the Qatar Tennis Federation,” said Al Mana. “These activities will give the general public an opportunity to learn more about this outstanding tournament that we bring to Qatar every year, what activities it includes, how they tie into our overall mission of supporting the Qatar National Vision 2030, and highlight Qatar’s position as a center for mega sporting events.”
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of tennis fans to this wonderful event that features some of the biggest names in tennis,” he added.
Zeinal said, “We are very proud of our strategic partnership with ExxonMobil Qatar, which has continued to produce positive impact on tennis in Qatar over the years. The relationship between the two noble organizations, QTF and ExxonMobil Qatar, has been growing in leaps and bounds and we are very grateful to them for their continuous support.”
“The support from ExxonMobil Qatar has helped in putting Qatari tennis on the global stage and we at the Qatar Tennis Federation are grateful for this. The synergy between the two organizations is a proof that there is no limit to what can be achieved when people are passionately committed to a course and we believe the partnership will continue to grow stronger with each passing year,” he added.
On his part, Alami said, “It has always been a pleasure to host each edition of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open particularly with the great support we’ve enjoyed from our great partner and premier supporter of tennis in Qatar – ExxonMobil Qatar. All the promotional activities planned for this year’s tournament fall under ExxonMobil Qatar’s Energy in Motion campaign – a campaign, which aims to raise awareness on the science behind sports and tennis in particular, and supports ExxonMobil Qatar’s broader efforts to help build human potentials through education programs.
Through these efforts, ExxonMobil Qatar is developing the scientists, engineers and innovators that will help support Qatar’s future knowledge-based society, in line with the National Vision 2030.
ExxonMobil Qatar has also planned two competitions for its social media followers on Twitter and Instagram that will launch before the start of the tournament.
The first competition will run from December 8 to January 6, giving followers the chance to win exciting prizes by taking part in the activities at the stands in Novo Cinemas, The Pearl, Doha Festival City, and Villaggio.
The second competition is a STEM quiz. Every week, a question will be asked on ExxonMobil Qatar’s Instagram and Twitter accounts. Followers will need to follow the accounts, give their answer on the post and tag three friends. There will be a winner announced weekly during the duration of the competition, which will run from December 8 to January 11.
The Qatar ExxonMobil Open is the first ATP World Tour tennis tournament of the year, and a much-anticipated sporting event that hosts some of the biggest names in tennis, and attracts thousands of tennis enthusiasts from around the world.
The Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2020 will bring together some of the world’s top players to compete for the trophy and a share of the prize money. Confirmed tournament participants include: defending champion, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Stan Wawrinka, and Andrey Rublev.
