BerlincTypeface:> Red Bull Salzburg’s Erling Braut Haaland became the youngest player ever to be voted Austria’s footballer of the year on Wednesday, in a poll conducted by Austrian news agency APA of the country’s 12 top-flight coaches. The exciting young attacker beat competition from two Germany-based players - RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and Bayern Munich’s David Alaba – to take the award aged just 19 years and 150 days. Haaland is also the first non-Austrian to win the award since Rapid Vienna’s German star Steffen Hofmann in 2009. "It’s a big thing for me,” Halland said. "The youngest ever and the first foreigner for 10 years – that’s something special. It’s an honour for me.” Alaba – a six-time player-of-the-year winner – was previously the youngest recipient, aged 19 and 199 days when he won in 2011. Haaland has scored 28 goals in 22 games in all competitions. (DPA)
