Tribune News NetworkDohaQatar is focussing on providing “the best fan experience” to people coming to watch the FIFA World Cup in Doha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has said. “We are very excited to host the World Cup in Doha in a few months from now. We are looking forward to bringing the whole world together,” he told CNA Insider during an interview.Although hooliganism is a threat that hangs over major football events, the foreign minister said Qatar has put in place a strict security protocol to deal with disorderly fan behaviour.“We hope that everyone comes to Doha to see our country, to enjoy our hospitality, and also to behave...“The security cooperation that we have with different countries and the crowd management protocol will help a lot in minimising any negative impact that might be associated with the fan experience.”However, Sheikh Mohammed believes the country’s “peaceful environment” will inspire the “overexcited” fans to behave themselves.“Qatar is a peaceful country. So I believe even those people [who tend to] get over excited, when they see this peaceful environment they will act peacefully as well.”The foreign minister said LNG would remain relevant at least during the transition period when countries make the switch from hydrocarbon-based fuels to more environment-friendly alternatives.According to Sheikh Mohammed, LNG would take over as a substitute fuel gradually.“We have seen this happening in different countries.”He said Qatar’s LNG expansion plans would eventually help stablise the energy market and advance its eco-friendly policies. The foreign minister said Qatar has been a very reliable partner to all its buyers as its supplies LNG to Asia and to Europe as well and didn’t give priority to one over the other “We stuck to our contracts,” he added. On Qatar’s ties with US and China, Sheikh Mohammed said both the countries are important allies and play key role in the global peace and stability.
