THE Embassy of Nepal in Doha kicked off the ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ campaign at an official ceremony on Tuesday.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar HE Dr Narad Nath Bharadwaj and Farhan al Sheikh al Sayed, founder and patron of Qatar Extreme Sports and president of International Walking Football Federation Qatar, by lighting the traditional lamp.
Abdullah Yousef A Fakhroo, former ambassador of Qatar to Belgium, the US and the UAE; Salem al Marri, PR manager of Katara Cultural Village; senior officials and representatives of travel and tour operators in Qatar and money exchange companies; Qatari businesspersons; representatives of non-resident Nepalese associations and prominent members of the Nepalese community in Qatar attended the ceremony.
A brief video on Nepal’s tourism attractions was presented during the ceremony. A presentation was also made on the ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ campaign and the major tourism destinations of Nepal.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Bharadwaj highlighted the close and cordial relations between Nepal and Qatar. He noted that the two countries are exploring collaborations in new areas, especially in the economic sector.
Dr Bhardwaj also urged Qatari nationals as well as expatriate communities residing in Qatar to visit Nepal with family and friends during the campaign period to explore the beauty of Nepal.
He observed that Nepal is a beautiful panorama of nature, culture and adventure.
"It is only a short flight away from Qatar. Nepalese are one of the most hospitable peoples in the world. Furthermore, Nepal is aspiring for economic growth in the backdrop of the recently gained political stability. Tourism is one of the pillars of Nepalese economy. Hence, visiting Nepal in 2020 also means supporting Nepal’s aspiration for peace, progress and prosperity,” the ambassador added.
He encouraged travel and tour operators in Qatar to cash in on the attractive tourism packages in Nepal.
Farhan al Sheikh al Sayed assured of all support and highlighted the need for promoting Nepal’s tourism attractions among the local population.
"Direct and frequent flights between the two capitals, reaching six flights a day, are already an advantage for promoting Nepal tourism among Qataris,” he noted.
R K Sharma, secretary of Non-Resident Nepali Association International Coordination Committee and a prominent Nepalese entrepreneur in Qatar, said the Nepalese community in Qatar fully supports the campaign. The community will also collaborate with the embassy to promote the campaign, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Fakhroo shared the memory of his past three visits to Nepal. He also reflected on the beauty of Nepal as well as the warm cordiality of Nepalese people. He said he would visit Nepal soon again to support the ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ campaign and to extend social assistance.
Meanwhile, the ambassador handed over the tourist visa of Nepal to Fakhroo on the occasion.
