Beijing: Airlines and transport authorities in Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan and India are avoiding air space over Iran and Iraq as tensions between Iran and the United States threatened to boil over on Wednesday.
“Safety is of utmost importance to Malaysia Airlines,” a statement from the carrier said, noting that certain long-haul flights did not fly over Iraq and that it would henceforth avoid Iranian airspace.
In India, authorities have reportedly instructed national carriers to avoid airspace over Iran, Iraq and the Gulf.
All passenger flights with Taiwan’s China Airlines will avoid flying over Iran and Iraq, Taiwan’s state-run Central News Agency reported. (DPA)
