Tribune news networkdohaThe College of Health Sciences at Qatar University (QU) participated in the first exhibition of the new students orientation of the QU-Health cluster at Qatar University, under the slogan: "Your Gateway to the Health Professions”. The event, which was held at the Ibn Al-Bitar Building at Qatar University, was opened by Dr. Hassan Al-Derham, President of Qatar University, in the presence of Dr. Asma Al-Thani, Vice President for Health and Medical Sciences, and His Excellency Major General (Doctor) Asaad Ahmed Al-Asaad, Commander of Medical Services - Qatar Armed Forces, Deans of health-related colleges, department heads, faculty members, and students.The first day of the orientation was held virtually on August 18th included introductory sessions and presentations about the QU Health colleges and the programmes they offer. The programme included a presentation by the College of Health Sciences in addition to interactive activities in collaboration with former graduates, with the aim of introducing the new students, saving time and effort, and enhancing their academic experience.This year, 112 new female students join the various majors offered at the College of Health Sciences, which include Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Human Nutrition, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. With the aim of easing the experience of new students, the exhibition included different internal and external participants in addition to the various departments at Qatar University to provide general information about programs, employment opportunities, and support services. Booths included: Student clubs, Academic Advising, Academic Excellence Program, General Requirements Program, Library, Security and Safety Department, in addition to the participation of entities from various health sectors in the country: Hamad Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Aspetar, Sidra Medicine, and the Qatar Armed Forces. (Medical Services Division) and Qatar Airways.Dr. Hanan Abdul Rahim, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, expressed the importance of the student orientation and meeting the potential employers, saying: "Involving our partners in the health care sector in these events is crucial at the very early stages of students’ academic career. It encourages students’ academic excellence and enables them to connect their educational experiences with real-life professional opportunities.’’Nada Al-Kubaisi, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, expressed the importance of students attending such introductory meetings, saying: "Students have many questions at the beginning of their academic journey, and they need the support and guidance from the departments and service units. This exhibition tells them about the role of the college and its supportive services in supporting their success, and introduces them to academic advising services, policies for registration, and academic courses.”
