The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) issued licences to 5,724 health practitioners in 2019. It included 968 physicians, 197 dentists, 3,123 nurses, 361 pharmacists and 1,075 health practitioners from the auxiliary medical professions category, the ministry has said.
The MoPH affirmed keenness to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety of health services provided to the Qatari community and to provide the health sector with competent health practitioners.
Director of the Health Specializations Department at MoPH Dr Saad Rashid al Kaabi said the ministry works to ensure the efficiency of health practitioners working in Qatar, and adopts unified policies for their registration and licencing regardless of the origin of the certificate or the origin of the country of the applicant.
The ministry maintains the principle of transparency and objectivity in granting registration and licences to the practitioners, he said.
The ministry also works to facilitate the registration and licensing procedures for health practitioners in a manner that does not affect the safety of patients while ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety of health services, including updating the procedures for visiting doctors (visiting medical staff for a short period), and “locum” (who practiced the profession temporarily and does not reside in the country).
It also updates the policy for CPR sessions upon renewing the licence.
The health practitioners affiliated with health institutions that have an effective team for rapid response from the CPR courses have been exempted to simplify the procedures for renewal of licences in line with the best regulatory practices.
It also adopted a new policy regarding “medical examinations” required to obtain a licence and renew a licence.
The MoPH has approved the organisation of eight new areas of work within the list of auxiliary medical professions, including psychological counsellor, radiation oncologist, recovery counsellor, emergency medical officer, orthopaedic practitioner, and orthopaedic technician.
