The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has taken all necessary measures to prevent the entry of coronavirus into the country, a top official has said.
“The ministry reassures all citizens that until this moment, no cases of 2019 coronavirus have been registered in Qatar, and if this disease exists, all necessary equipment is available and the necessary work will be done,” Dr Suha al Bayyat, Head of the Vaccinations Department at MoPH, said in a video broadcast by Hamad Medical Corporation on its official Twitter account.
“We assure all citizens and residents of Qatar that MoPH, in cooperation with other medical authorities, Hamad International Airport, Qatar Airways and others, is taking all precautionary measures to prevent the entry of the coronavirus, which emerged in China,” she said.
She explained that one of these measures is setting up thermal scanners to measure the temperature of passengers coming from China. When a passenger is suspected of a high temperature, a trained medical staff will take this passenger to a clinic designated to do some other tests, including measuring the temperature again by a handheld device.
“If the passenger still suffers from a high temperature and shows some symptoms, the passenger is taken to a specialised hospital in Qatar equipped to do some tests and samples are taken to ascertain whether the virus is present or not and in the absence of the virus the passenger is allowed to reach his final destination.”
As for Qatar Airways planes, she said the crew members are trained on symptoms of the disease and how to deal with it. In case of suspicion, the pilot of the plane informs the ground crew that there is a suspected case and when the plane arrives in Qatar, the trained medical staff will go to the plane, will take the passenger to the clinic designated for necessary action.
Dr Suha called on the public not to pay attention to rumours and to take the proper information from the official sources.
