Ooredoo, the region’s leading enabler of digital innovations, sponsored the Carnegie Apps Hackathon event held on Friday.
The Hackathon – an annual event aimed at bringing together some of the brightest new tech talents in the region – was hosted at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar in Doha.
Students from some of the most prestigious universities in Qatar and the Gulf region were offered the chance to develop an application or a prototype of an application in a 24-hour programming competition mentored by a group of seasoned technology professionals and judged by a panel of technology experts from CMU-Q and Ooredoo.
The event, which culminated in an award ceremony recognising students’ efforts and achievements, is known for offering a highly visible platform via which some of the most promising young innovators can showcase their skills and talents. There were five categories in which participants could win awards - Best Overall App, Best Technical, Best Design, Best Rookie and the Ooredoo Special Theme for innovations in AI and 5G use cases pertinent to Ooredoo services.
A host of amazing prizes were on offer including smartphones and other devices.
Manar Khalifa al Muraikhi, director of PR and Corporate Communications at Ooredoo – said: “We were delighted to work with Carnegie Mellon University in supporting entrepreneurship, which fit perfectly with our focus on digital transformation and our corporate social responsibility commitment to supporting community events and promoting education. We were excited to see what innovations this year’s participants came up with - particularly in the Ooredoo Special Theme category.
