Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB) recently welcomed a group of students from the Omani University of Buraimi, as part of an educational and familiarisation tour to a number of universities and institutions in Qatar.
QIIB CEO Abdulbasit Ahmed al Shaibei met the Omani delegation along with the members of the bank’s top management.
The CEO welcomed the Omani delegation and stressed on the importance of exchanging educational visits and acquiring experiences in the field of banking.
He said, “The brotherly relations between Qataris and Omanis will help better interaction in various fields. There is no doubt that the role played by various institutions, such as banks, universities, and schools, is an important and effective role to strengthen ties, labour relations and cooperation for the good and benefit of the brothers in the two countries”.
Shaibei briefed the students about QIIB and its journey in the banking sector since its establishment more than 25 years ago. The period had seen the bank achieving many milestones and keeping pace with the Qatari economy, which is rapidly and consistently growing and has become one of the most important and most competitive economies in the world
“The role of QIIB goes beyond achieving profits as it seeks to support development. The bank contributes to the financing of various sectors and projects that provide added value to the society.
“QIIB also contributed to the development of Islamic banking and in promoting innovation through its products and services, as well as to the achievement of similar successes outside the State of Qatar,” the CEO noted.
QIIB CEO hoped that “bridges of communication and cooperation will be strengthened, and similar visits from Al Buraimi University students to the bank will be frequent, which will benefit the students and the university and encourage the various institutions to initiate partnerships that serve all those concerned.”
The visit of the students’ delegation from the University of Buraimi included discussion with a number of QIIB executives, during which various aspects of Islamic banking, achievements and challenges at the global level, confidence that Islamic banking enjoys as a result of adopting ethical principles and relying on real transactions and assets, away from consumer finance and quick profits, were dealt with.
Besides being profitable, Islamic banks focus on financing development, which provides value addition to the society and promotes holistic development that serves the interest of the largest possible segment of the society.
The need for academic institutions to focus on developing various specialties of Islamic banking was discussed. This is of particular significance as Islamic banking is growing very rapidly. Securing human resources is one of the most important challenges facing Islamic banking. This requires universities to keep pace with the expansion of this market in an appropriate manner.
At the end of the visit, the Omani students and their accompanying professors, expressed their gratitude to QIIB for welcoming them and briefing them about its rich experience and expertise in Islamic banking, which added qualitative value to their knowledge in this vital field.
They noted that during their visit to QIIB and various other institutions, they were welcomed with warmth and affection, as if they were in their home country, Oman.
They expressed their gratitude for all the hospitality extended, facilities granted and information provided during their visit to QIIB.
