BAZM-e-Urdu Qatar (BUQ), the oldest Urdu literary organisation in Qatar, recently released a poetry collection titled ‘Kuchh Aur’ (something different), penned by popular Doha-based Urdu poet Iftekhar Raghib.
The poetry collection, which is Raghib’s fifth to have been published, was released at a ceremony held at Skills Development Center.
BUQ also held its regular poetic symposium on the occasion. Dr Faisal Hanif, the chairman of BUQ and a literary critic, presided over the programme while visiting Indian poet and Bollywood lyricist Sani Aslam and senior patron of BUQ Syed Abdul Hye were the chief guests for the evening.
BUQ president Mohammed Rafique Shad Akolvi compered the programme.
Raghib, a civil engineer by profession, is also BUQ’s general secretary.
The 180-page ‘Kuch Aur’ contains 101 lyrical and thoughtful ghazals. Qazi Abdul Malik rendered the ghazals in his melodious voice at the event while Waseem Ahmad and Sirajul Haque explained the fine qualities of Raghib’s poetry. Poets Muzaffar Nayab and Faiyaz Bukhari Kamal praised the quality of Raghib’s poetry.
The others who took part in the poetry symposium included Rafique Shad Akolvi, Yusuf Kamal, Muzaffar Nayab, Vazir Ahmed Vazir, Wasi Bastawi, Mushfique Raza Naqwi, Fayaz Bukhari Kamal, Itifaque Anmol and Zareef Mehr Balooch.
The poets received big appreciation from the audience.
In the last section of the programme, Raghib delivered a short speech on his new book and thanked the BUQ for its support.
Abdul Hye spoke on the strengths of Raghib’s style while Sani Aslam stressed the need for having such programmes to promote Urdu language and literature and congratulated Raghib.
Finally, Dr Faisal Hanif highlighted specific qualities of Raghib’s poetic diction in his speech. He said the growing maturity of Raghib’s poetry can be felt by reading his collections in chronological order.
Bazm’s media secretary Irshad Ahmed delivered the vote of thanks.
Founded in 1959, BUQ has been organising monthly poetic symposiums for the last six decades. It also organises quarterly and annual Urdu seminars and international poetic symposiums. BUQ has released more than 50 Urdu books to date.
