THE President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Engineer Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari opened the fourth edition of Tarsheed Carnival at Kahramaa Awareness Park on Tuesday.
The annual carnival themed ‘Be the Change’ is one of the most important environmental sustainability and awareness events bringing together government and private institutions to promote rationalisation of electricity and water use in the country in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Kuwari said that the Tarsheed Carnival 2020 includes several events that are being offered for the first time, such as the Sustainability Bazaar, which is the first mobile market that provides environment-friendly materials to support small and medium youth projects, as part of Kahramaa’s social responsibility initiatives.
The carnival aims to highlight the most important sustainability projects and ways to reduce carbon emission. It also features activities that raise awareness of the importance of rationalisation and energy efficiency to achieve a sustainable future through interactive activities, entertainment competitions, training workshops and theatrical performances.
The carnival also highlights the role of government and private sector institutions such as the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Interior, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Red Crescent Society among others in achieving sustainability goals.
This year’s edition of the carnival also includes a zone designated for cafes and restaurants that contain a number of Qatari projects to support the local youth.
The Kahramaa president thanked the sponsors and partners who contributed to the success of the Carnival including Vodafone Qatar, Qatari Diar, ConocoPhillips, and Total Qatar.
He added that the event, which has witnessed a great turnout of visitors including the common public and school students on its first day, reflects the positive response of the community to the National Program for Rationalization and Energy Efficiency ‘Tarsheed’ initiative.
Vodafone Qatar’s CEOSheikh Hamad Abdulla al Thani said: "Environmental sustainability is one of Vodafone’s strategic pillars, one we have integrated as a corporate value across the business, from our supply chain to all our activities. We look forward to demonstrating these values to visitors at the Tarsheed Carnival through our digital safety awareness activity, AmanTech, which is one of the ways we help educate our next generation.”
The carnival activities are held in two shifts, from 8am until noon, which is intended for school students, and from 4pm until 9pm for the public. On weekends, the carnival will open its doors to the public in the evening until February 27.
