Excitement has been building for the popular Al Adaid Desert Challenge, one of the most-awaited events in the region.
Scheduled to take place on the purpose-built 40-km circuit in the Sealine area on February 28, the 2020 edtion, designated as UCI Category 3 Mountain Bike Race, has attracted a record 625 participants.
A beautiful but tough course, a hike in the prize money and addition of a new MTB + Run competition to the schedule have drawn such a huge number of contestants especially from Europe.
The organisers have put QR215,000 at the stake – which is the highest in the world for a Category 3 race under the UCI umbrella.
The event is organised by Qatar Cyclists Center under the umbrella of the Ministry of Culture and Sport. The sponsors and supporters for the event are: Qatar National Tourism Council, Doha Insurance Group, Ooredoo, Takaful Insurance, Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, Rayyan Natural Water, GMC, Doha Bus, Rasen Sports, Garmin, Mawater, Royal Riviera Hotel, Qatar Red Crescent, DAMA Italian Sportswear, Al Majles Resort and Rehlaty Travel & Tourism.Race InfoDATE: February 28 (Friday)
MOUNTAIN BIKE XCP, UCI Class 3 (point to point race) The race will be run under UCI regulations. All participants ride on their own responsibility. Applicable Provisions – For all that is not regulated under this present regulation, the Commissaire Panel will apply the International Cycling Union regulations and the Qatar Cycling Federation regulations in compliance.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION: The start area is located next to the Mawater Dune, around 1km from Sealine Beach Resort. From there cyclists/runners will cycle/run along the ‘desert highway’, across stretches of sand and cross over 10 sand dunes for cyclists and 7 dunes for runners to reach the finish line located at Al Majles Desert Resort.
