Aimed at catering to the huge housing market worth billions of dollars for Qatari nationals, the first edition of Build Your House 2020 exhibition kicked off amid large crowd in Doha on Monday.
Being held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al Thani, the new format exhibition was officially inaugurated by Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed al Kuwari in the presence of ministers, ambassadors, industry experts and other dignitaries.
A first-of-its-kind, the three-day exhibition specifically targets Qatari nationals who are looking for ideas and tips to build their own house or to renovate their existing house. The exhibition is focused on assisting Qatari nationals understand the processes and procedures involved in house construction and renovation.
Participated by over 120 exhibitors, the exhibition serves as a platform to connect visitors to contractors and consultants to enable them to make informed choices when it comes to building their residence.
Following the opening, the minister toured the 5,300 sqm of exhibition space at the Qatar National Convention Center.
Day one saw thousands of attendees streaming through the pavilions at the exhibition area, getting a close-up look at the more than thousands of materials and supplies on display by the exhibitors.
In addition to seeing a wide range of materials and supplies on display, attendees also had the opportunity to expand their knowledge through a host of education sessions.
Organised by NeXTFairs, this unique exhibition is expected to attract over 7,000 visitors during its run, as well as for attending the workshops and seminars occurring onsite.
According to data provided by the organisers of the exhibition, Qatar expected to spend $12 billion over five years to develop new housing for nationals. The country is expected to witness trade worth $3 billion in textile, $3 billion in furniture and fittings and $3.5 billion in lighting system by 2020.
Speaking on the occasion, NeXTfairs Managing Director Rawad Sleem said, “We are off to a great start. As the first edition of Build Your House has finally opened its doors to eager visitors, we are very confident that this exhibition will prove to be a great source of information and knowledge for everything related to house building in Qatar.”
“The many workshops and seminars that are being organised as part of Build Your House 2020 will be hosted and conducted by over 30 experts from both the public and the private sector. These workshops and seminars are expected to be big crowd pullers,” he said.
The exhibition featuring over 120 exhibitors is showcasing the latest products and services in the building and construction industry and introducing visitors to the latest technologies and materials used in building, architecture, and interior designs. The exhibitors include companies from the fields of contractors, interior design and decoration as well as consultants and suppliers.
Supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Trade, Ministry of Municipality & Environment, Ministry of Administrative Development Labor & Social Affairs, Ashghal and Civil Defence, Build Your House 2020 partners and sponsors include Kahramaa as strategic partner, QDB as development sponsor, Tadmur Trading as the founding partner, Interior Treasure as official sponsor, SEIB insurance as the insurance partner and The Architects Hub as the knowledge partner.

“The free workshops organised during Build Your House 2020 will offer information on everything from laws and building processes to designs and latest trends. The workshops will be divided on the basis of popular themes inspired from the latest house building trends from around the world. The workshops will be conducted by 30 experts from both the private and public sector,” NeXTFairs said in a statement.
“The workshops will prove a great add-on value to the exhibition as industry expert speakers will share their experience and know-how to give you the right advice, inspiration, ideas, and knowledge to complete your next project. Some of the topics which will be covered during the workshops include adapting your home to the local climate, legal aspects for contractual contracts, Islamic finance information, sustainability in your home and landscaping,” it said.
