The three-day Build Your Home 2020 exhibition came to an end at the Qatar National Convention Centre on Wednesday, with its organiser expressing confidence the event would have set a turnout record.
The exact numbers of the visitors over the past three days weren’t available on Wednesday but the organisers —NeXTFairs — said it expected more than 7,000 to have visited the event.
The BYH 2020, which opened on Monday, was a new-format exhibition that sought to cater to the construction, fit-out and renovation needs of Qatari nationals. It also extended a platform to companies in the construction supply chain to meet potential partners and expand their networks.
The event contributed to changing the local construction culture and creating a better environment in the construction sector for Qatari nationals, the organiser has said.
The expo also sought to ensure better transparency among contractors, consultants and suppliers.
"Qatari attendees had the opportunity to look up consultants, contractors and suppliers who match their project requirement, and also check for best quality and better prices.
"Our objective is based on delivering a clearer environment for Qataris to understand the construction process to perfectly achieve their project, as well as requirements for design and contracting, while always keeping close attention to work progress and suppliers’ relationship,” NeXTFairs said on its website.
Held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al Thani, the expo was inaugurated by Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed al Kuwari.
They event featured more than 120 exhibitors, who showcased their latest products and services in the building and construction industry and introduced visitors to the latest technologies and materials used in building, architecture, and interior designs. The exhibitors included companies from the fields of contractors, interior design and decoration as well as consultants and suppliers.
The expo also featured free workshops, offering information on everything from laws and building processes to designs and latest trends. The workshops were divided on the basis of popular themes inspired from the latest house building trends from around the world. The workshops were conducted by 30 experts from both the private and public sector. Some of the topics which were covered during the workshops include adapting the home to the local climate, legal aspects for contractual contracts, Islamic finance information, sustainability in home building and landscaping.
