Five-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo will come out of his retirement and race at home Catalunya MotoGP as wildcard.
The Spanish star called it quits last November in Valencia and joined the Iwata factory as the test rider at the beginning of 2020 and completed two-days of testing at the Sepang shakedown and Official Tests in February.
Questions were already being asked if the 47-time MotoGP race winner would return to MotoGP action some time this season, Lorenzo had denied.
After successful runs, both parties seem to have taken the decision for the number 99 to be back and join fellow M1 riders Valentino Rossi, Maverick Vinales, Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli on the grid in Barcelona on June 5-7.
Jorge Lorenzo commented: "After some weeks thinking about it, yesterday I decided I will compete at the Catalan GP. I’m really looking forward to it and I’ll see you all there.”
Lorenzo will continue his test duties throughout the year for the factory Yamaha squad.
