The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Tuesday banned shisha or hookah smoking in all restaurants and cafes in the country until further notice.
Anyone who violates this decision will be held accountable, the MoPH said in a statement.
The decision comes in line with the prevailing health conditions and preventive measures being taken to combat coronavirus (COVID-19).
Earlier in the day, the Central Municipal Council urged restaurants and cafeterias in Qatar to stop serving shishas as a preventive measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
The managements of Souq Wakif and Katara Cultural Village have also directed outlets within their ambit to not serve shishas and hookahs.
The move is among a string of measures taken by Qatar to deal with the virus.
The MoPH has urged all entities and individuals to follow preventive measures to ensure their safety as well as that of the wider community, refer to the ministry’s website www.moph.gov.qa for all information and resources about the COVID-19 that are available in several languages, or call the toll-free number 16000.
