The Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) on Thursday announced a series of precautionary and preventive measures against coronavirus (COVID-19) to ensure the safety of worshippers and mosque attendees.
As part of efforts to curb the COVID-19 outbreak, the ministry issued a circular directing all mosques in the country to close within 15 minutes after each prayer.
It has called for reducing the waiting time after the call to prayer to five minutes and highlighted the importance of ensuring proper ventilation (by opening windows) during the prayers.
The ministry has also urged people with flu-like symptoms such as coughing and runny nose to avoid going to the mosques.
The ministry also stressed on the need to keep mosques and surrounding areas clean.
It stressed on the need to maintain hygiene inside mosques, and removing all what could be contributing in transmitting the infection, such as cups in refrigerators, soap bars and wastebaskets, the statement added.
The ministry advised worshipers to make sure to do their Wudu at home and not to gather with other prayers in side talks after the prayer in the mosque. The ministry also advised all citizens and residents to comply with the health guidance issued by the competent authorities and cooperate with them.
