Qatar University’s (QU) students of various departments have started to adjust with new virtual learning system and find is safety insuring during the time of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Qatar.
Earlier, The Government Communications Office announced the suspension of classes in public and private schools and universities for all students in Qatar to limit the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of students.
The e-learning system deployed by the university makes lectures easily accessible for all students from the privacy of their homes. More than 500 classes have been held through the system until now and more than 1,500 hours have been spent through the ‘BlackBoard’ portal.
Juman Badran, a student of Mass Communication Department at QU, said, "The distance learning system turned out to be a huge success because of its quick adaptation by students. The professors have been very cooperative during the current situation. The interaction between us and professors is not as strong as it used to be in classrooms, however, if we have any questions, our professor are ready to answer them through the new system.”
The students also praised the hard work and quick decision made by the university in the implementation of the e-learning system.
QU has strived to provide best facilities to all its colleges and students with special needs.
"It is highly beneficial and we do appreciate all the efforts taken by the government and the university to ensure the students’ health. There are few technical problems that occur sometimes, but we manage to attend our lectures and make them a smooth conversation,” said Malaz Hamed, a student of Industrial and Systems Engineering at QU.
He is of the opinion that the system, which is also a demonstration of the new technology, should be continued in future as it will benefit the students. "This is the new e-world; we should appreciate the efforts of our university,” he added.
Nageh Ibrahim Alsayyad, another student from Computer Engineering Department at QU, praised the new e-learning system and encouraged his fellow students to continue hard working through the portal.
"Being a student of engineering, we sometimes require more interaction to explore our subject. But, due to the rapid spread of coronavirus, we have to limit ourselves at home and we hope this comes to an end soon and we continue our normal university life again,” he added.
The e-learning system has now become the alternative way of delivering the lectures at QU. It helps students to have interactive communication with professors, allowing the students to ask questions by voice recording and writing. This system aims also to enrich the academic experience at QU.
