In this period of lockdown, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Academy Qatar has been working hard to build up a high-quality remote program to give their 1000 players and all the football fans in Doha the opportunity to stay active.
Twice a week the Paris Saint-Germain Academy Qatar release on their Youtube channel a 30 to 45 minutes program adapted to any ages, skills levels and space constraint.
From nutrition tips, warm up, ball mastery to fitness, the participants can enjoy a professional session and keep progressing while staying home.
In addition to the remote program and to maintain a strong level of engagement with the local community, Paris Saint-Germain Academy Qatar delivers a Facebook live training session on every Thursday at 4pm.
Those programmes will be run at least until end of May and might be extended all over the summer according to the health situation.
Fabien Dilem, General Manager of the Paris Saint-Germain Regional Office in Doha said: “As a major football club it is part of our commitment to put our expertise and knowledge at the service of the youth during this difficult period. We are here to support the local community by providing them with the appropriate tools to keep their children active.
I really want to thank Cyril Kloseck our Technical Director, Didier Domi former PSG player and Technical Advisor, and the entire coaches’ team for their amazing work over the last 3 weeks.
We will keep working hard in order to continue to deliver our remote training programs until the situation gets better.”
Speaking about their daily work is since March 10, Kloseck said, “It’s been a bit challenging for the team to reorganise work by staying home or at the office since we are more use to being on the field but overall everything is fine. It’s a tough time but I’m sure we will find positive impacts in it.” On the decision to close the sports academy due to the pandemic, he said. “We totally understand the government decision. After a few minutes of surprise we directly started putting a plan to support our 1000 members and the youth in Qatar.” On how they managed to put together this remote program so quickly, he explained: “All the coaches have been mobilised from day one to build a program by taking into consideration all the parameters and constraints such as the space or equipment.
The idea was to come up with a session easy to implement and open to anyone wherever you are and whatever is your level.
We are lucky to be supported in this by the main Paris Saint-Germain youth academy, as well as Didier Domi, a former Paris Saint-Germain player part of our team and bringing his experience to overcome this challenge.” About the PSG Academy plan for the upcoming weeks and months, he said, “Over the next weeks we will continue to enrich our programs, to run our live sessions every Thursday and support the football fans. Every week we can see how happy the kids are when they reach the football field and we can imagine how frustrating can be that period for all them. So it’s part of our role and mission to keep working hard and try to fill their day with engaging content.”
On his advice for all the young football fans in Doha, Kloseck said, “Stay safe, Stay home and practice the Paris Saint-Germain Academy remote program to keep progressing. We miss all of you and we hope to see you soon on the field.”
Launched in January 2019, the Paris Saint-Germain Academy Qatar became in a few month one of the biggest football programmes in Qatar with 1000 players -- boys and girls from 5 to 17 years split over four training locations in the country (Education City – Lusail – Wakrah – Al Khor).
