TEAM effort propelled Junalvin Doha Cables to victory against Ooredoo with the final score 99-86 during the championship game for the Senior Open Division of Pinoy Basketball of Qatar (Pibaq) Ambassador Cup 2016-Ooredoo held at Al Gharafa Training Gym recently.
Doha Cables cagers were formidable on the hard court right from the onset of the game denying their opponent a chance to shake up their united front. They held on to their 13 points lead in the third quarter until the final buzzer rang.
Two free throws made by Oscar Butial with 10 seconds left in the game were followed by a three-point shot by Edelberto Garcia sealing the deal for the victorious Doha Cables.
Butial, who was one of the Mythical Five awardees at the tournament, finished with 27 points. But, it was his teammate Robin Mendoza, contributing 17 points, who was given the Finals MVP Award. Mendoza is also part of the Mythical Five.
Jojo Longalong of Ooredoo Team went home with a cash award and gold ring from Diana Jewellery & Watches as the MVP for Season 20. He scored 23 points and was also named as one of the Mythical Five awardees. Doha Cables coach Felixberto Lloren Jr was hailed as the Best Coach. Completing the Mythical Five are Jerson Sales (Batang Sanna) and Restie Mangalubnan (Vintage).
The tournament was presented by Alicafe. It was supported by Qatar Basketball Federation and the Philippine Embassy Doha. The sponsors were Diana Jewellery & Watches, Power Horse Energy Drink, Control-P Seventh Spectrum and Shutterbugz Photography.
