FIFA World Cup™ winner Xavi Hernandez will feature in Generation Amazing’s Instagram Live session on Wednesday (April 15) at 5pm Doha time (GMT +3) to discuss health and fitness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) ambassador will also talk about the Generation Amazing programme, which is currently active in nine countries and has positively impacted the lives of more than 500,000 people. Generation Amazing – a Qatar 2022 legacy programme – harnesses the power of football to deliver sustainable positive change in underprivileged communities.
Generation Amazing started daily live streams last week as it aims to continue engaging with its stakeholders and audience during the ongoing pandemic. The sessions occur every weekday on its Facebook and Instagram channels: @GA4Good.
Xavi, who is currently the head coach of Qatar Stars League team Al Sadd, said: “I am very excited to be joining Generation Amazing’s Instagram Live sessions to talk about how football and sporting values can help us in these challenging times. I look forward to interacting with the audience and hopefully lifting spirits through the fantastic live programme Generation Amazing has been offering.”
Continuing to showcase the Generation Amazing programme during the pandemic is a core objective of the online programme, which aims to reach children and youth around the world.
Generation Amazing’s Communications & Marketing Director, Moza al Mohannadi, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting Xavi for this upcoming live session. Audiences will be in for a treat as we hear how our shared footballing values and the power of sport can help inspire generations through both good and challenging times.”
Nasser al Khori, Programmes Director at Generation Amazing, said: “Xavi has long been a part of our mission to reach children and youth, encouraging them to partake in an active and healthy lifestyle, and practice the positive uniting values we teach in football and the Generation Amazing programme, to better their lives and the lives of those in their community.”
Former Barcelona captain Xavi has taken part in a number of Generation Amazing activities during his time as an SC ambassador. In 2016, he travelled to Amman, Jordan, to run a training session for youngsters at the Al Baqa’a refugee camp pitch – which was constructed by Generation Amazing.
Last year, Xavi visited Mumbai to inaugurate a Generation Amazing pitch and meet with youth who had been provided a safe space to play football and take part in key life skills coaching.
Also, in December 2019, Xavi attended the FIFA Legends Day during the inaugural Generation Amazing Festival, which involved 140 youth ambassadors from more than 20 countries.
Generation Amazing is the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ human and social legacy programme which harnesses the power of football to positively impact lives and create sustainable social development in communities.
Watched by hundreds in Qatar and across the globe, its online social media live sessions will continue to convey the values of the programme and include tips on keeping fit and healthy at home.
Stay tuned to @GA4Good for more details on the Instagram Live event with Xavi, along with information about upcoming programmes.
