A total of 844,334 people benefited in projects worth more than QR130 million implemented by Qatar Charity (QC) in Qatar in 2019.
The projects covered social welfare programmes and assistance to support families with low incomes, those in debts, workers and others.
The projects come as part of the ‘Charity Starts at Home’ campaign launched by Qatar Charity.
Qatar Charity thanked the philanthropists, benefactors and donors in Qatar for their continuous support for Qatar.
The cost of domestic aid provided by Qatar Charity in 2019 amounted to more than QR84 million, which was allocated for families with low incomes, those in debt, patients, widows, divorced women, people with special needs, the elderly, students and others within Qatar.
Last year, QC spent QR60.5 million to settle the debts of 110 persons in Qatar to bring social stability to them, especially before the Holy Month of Ramadan and Eids.
The aid also covered 503 medical cases in 2019 to conduct medical examinations and provide treatment for patients, while more than 19,611 students benefited from the QC’s assistance.
During the year, Qatar Charity extended helping hands to 5,000 families as some 307 families with limited income, widows and divorced women benefited from monthly financial assistance valued at over QR10.7 million, while others received lump sum aid to address the exceptional circumstances they found themselves.
In social welfare, some 5,771 orphans and widows benefited from Qatar Charity’s projects and assistance.
As part of its ‘Future’s Leaders’ project, Qatar Charity sponsored 450 orphans, who received monthly aid, education and health services, and Eid gifts.
In appreciation of the efforts of the workers in the field of construction and development of the country, Qatar Charity, with the support of benefactors in Qatar, has provided aid to 630,420 workers, in cooperation with several government and private agencies, voluntary initiatives, schools and universities. The assistance included food baskets, clothes bags, entertainment activities and various programmes and projects.
In line with Qatar’s directives to people to stay at home during the coronavirus, in March, Qatar Charity decided to automatically renew the monthly aid disbursement to all of its registered beneficiaries, including families with limited income, widows and divorced women, for the next three months without the need to appear in person.
