Qatar’s football stars have stepped forward and announced that they would be taking pay cuts as a gesture of solidarity in dealing with the coronavirus crisis.
Qatar’s national team and Al Sadd captain Hassan al Haydos, 2018 AFC Player of the Year Abdelkarim Hassan, and defender Bassem al Rawi, who plays for Al Duhail in the Qatar Stars League, are among the star players who have announced their decisions.
The others following suit include the national team and Al Sadd goalkeeper Saad al Sheeb, Al Duhail SC midfielder Assim Madibo and Al Gharafa defender Almahdi Ali besides many others.
Meanwhile, Al Sadd players are continuing their daily training under the supervision of their Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez. Xavi is keenly following up on the players as they aim to be on top of their fitness when action returns following the stoppage of activities due to coronavirus. Players are directly monitored via electronic devices in order to ensure they have responded to the training programme by fitness coach Evan Torres.
Xavi expressed complete satisfaction with the players’ commitment to the training.
The club also announced that Hassan al Haydos has recovered from the injury he suffered during their AFC Champions League match against Iran’s Sepahan on February 18.
It may be noted that Al Sadd occupy the third place in the 2019-20 QNB Stars League after Week 17 with 32 points, behind Al Rayyan (38) and Al Duhail (42).
