The Ugandan embassy in Doha has received a consignment of food items for about 200 households of the Ugandan community from Qatar Charity.
The packages, which consist of assorted items such as rice, flour, salt, pasta, beans, teabags, concentrated milk and cooking oil etc. were received by Ugandan Ambassador to Qatar HE Dr Stephen Chemoiko Chebrot and leaders of the Ugandan community.
The ambassador said the embassy was working with the community leaders to identify the genuinely needy people in the community.
“We will provide them with transport and the logistics that they may require to be able to distribute these items,” he said.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity for its efforts in providing support during this crisis.
“We are greatly honoured as an embassy and other African embassies that have received this support for their people who are in need. Qatar Charity continues to fulfill its mandate to support those in need. We are very grateful,” he said.
Currently, there are approximately 10,000 Ugandan expatriates working and living in Qatar.
Chebrot, who came to Doha last December, added: “I came on December 14 and Qatar is good country with friendly people. So far, my tenure has been wonderful.”
Besides the donations through the embassies, Qatar Charity is providing food baskets to needy individuals through a simple procedure.
Recently, Qatar Charity Customer Service Manager of Communication and Resource, Development Sector Abdulaziz Jassim A J Haji said they have created a link for anyone who needs support for their daily food.
The person can go to the link and fill a few details. Once approved, they will receive an SMS with a coupon number to redeem on food items from any Meera branch in Qatar. The link is https://www.qcharity.org/en/qa/tafreejkorba/helprequest
