The Lusail University was launched on Wednesday as the first private national university in Qatar to offer several programmes for Qataris and residents.
The programmes at Lusail University, which are accredited by Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Morocco’s Ministry of National Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research, include Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Oil and Gas Management, Bachelor of Marketing and Distribution Technology, Bachelor of French Studies and Bachelor of English Teaching.
Online applications for enrolment will open on June 30, 2020 and the admission mechanism will be announced on the university’s social networking sites.
During the first meeting of the Board of Trustees chaired by Dr Ali bin Fateis al Marri, in the presence of all members of the Council, member of the Board Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al Nuaimi said Lusail University would join the rest of the universities in Qatar to contribute to building people as part of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
He said, “This university will provide important educational opportunities for those who wish to learn and stay in Qatar as it is open to Qataris and residents. The programmes that the university will offer are unique and qualitative, and in great demand in labour market. The university study hours will extend from morning to evening, which enhances learning opportunities for employees as well.”
Director of Lusail University Dr Mahmoud Khaled al Musafer said the university has attracted distinguished PhD and Masters holders teaching staff among Qataris, Arabs and other foreigners.
Speaking of the future plans of the university, Musafer said, “Our plan is to offer academic programmes at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels in the fields of management, economics, humanities, information technology and engineering.
“We offer special grants and facilities for citizens and residents holding high school diplomas, distinguished students, invention holders and people with special needs.
The 11,000-sq metre university building has 52 medium and large classrooms, a theatre that can accommodate 200 students and a number of small theatres, a large hall for activities and events for 400 students, a restaurant, modern library, parking facility, as well as close proximity to the metro station.
Lusail University has several strategic partnerships with regional and international universities, including Hassan II University in Casablanca in Morocco, the University of Jordan, the Sorbonne University in France and the University of Sussex in Britain.
