The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the construction of dedicated car parking lots at Al Qassar Metro Station.
The authority has also announced that 80 percent of the construction works of parking lots at Education City Metro Station has been completed as part of a project to serve visitors to metro stations and to avoid traffic congestion in the surrounding areas of stations.
The works at Al Qassar Metro Station included construction of 416 parking slots in an area of 38,000 square metres, construction of main gates, three structures for guards and security services, and another four structures for collecting parking fees.
The works also included installation of 79 streetlight poles, beautification and plantation works, and installation of road signage. Construction of drainage networks for the parking, including surface water drainage network, drainage networks, potable water network and irrigation network, was also part of the project.
The construction of the parking facility at Education City Metro Station is due to be completed in the third quarter of the year. As much as 80 percent of the works have been completed, and when complete, it will have 224 parking slots.
Eng Hamad al Badr, project engineer at Road Projects Department, Ashghal, stated that the authority is implementing the project to develop transportation network in Qatar and to link the road network to Doha Metro network. The new parking facilities will improve services at Al Qassar Station on the Red Line and Education City station on the Green Line, he said.
