A passenger lounge has been opened at the Abu Samra port on a trial basis ahead of FIFA World Cup 2022,the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced.
The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Permanent Committee for the Administration of Abu Samra Port, in cooperation with the Public Works Authority and the Supreme Committee for Projects and Legacy, has opened the passenger lounge.
Ashghal has also partially completed the parking lots for cars and buses to serve the passenger terminal.
Qatar is set to host the Arab world's first-ever FIFA World Cup from November 20 to December 18. The tournament is expected to bring more than 1.7 million people to Qatar during the period and large chunk of them are to travel by road to cross into the country.
The Qatar-Saudi border at Abu Samra has recently undergone several developments to accommodate an anticipated influx in visitors.
Besides, Ashghal has installed 163 directional signs distributed on Al Khor Rd, Lusail, University, also on Salwa Rd for those coming from the Abu Samra port, in addition to the dynamic signs in order to facilitate the fans' access to Lusail Stadium.
