The Qatari Armed Forces (QAF) and the US Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT) on Thursday celebrated the handing over of the reins of the AFCENT to Lieutenant General Gregory M Guillot, who succeeds Joseph T Guastella, in Qatar. The handover ceremony was held at Al-Udeid Air Base.
The ceremony was attended by HE Lieutenant General (Pilot) Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanim, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, HE Greta C Holtz, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Qatar, and General Kenneth McKinsey, Commander of the US Central Command in the Middle East.
In a speech, Al Ghanim stressed that the military relations between Qatar and the US are going from strength to strength day after day. “Because of the importance of this partnership to Qatar, we have started to work in full swing to develop the air base of many in order to increase operational efficiency and the absorptive capacity of operations led by our allies.”
“We welcome the presence of our friends -- the American armed forces -- in their second country, Qatar, and we are ready to enhance the partnership with our allies in Qatar, thereby contributing to strengthening regional and international security and stability.”
