Newly-inducted President of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Picpa) Doha LLC(G) Alvin R. Polido has urged each and every member, including those making up the new leadership, to continue to uphold the noble vision of one of the most reputable professional associations in the Philippines despite the challenging times.
He made the remarks during PICPA Doha’s first virtual General Assembly and Induction Ceremony for the new fiscal year held recently.
Polido said, “In these trying times, we must keep our vision clear and be invincible. We must hold on to our vision until the very end.”
He also presented his planned activities for the fiscal year. He presided over the induction and oath-taking of PICPA’s members and associates which were among the highlights of the rich programme.
The virtual event attended by PICPA National (Philippines) President Lope ‘Jun’ L. Bato, Jr and Philippine Labour Attache to Qatar David Des Dicang showcased PICPA’s commitment to its values and adaptability through a well-organised programme conducted via Zoom platform.
The entire programme resonated the message of the new leadership of PICPA Doha captured in the organisation’s theme for the fiscal year 2020-2021 ‘RISE – Responding Innovatively through
Service and Excellence’.
The theme was the winning entry of Carmi Joy D. Bue when a tagline competition was launched before the kick start of the event.
A report of the previous year’s milestone and achievements, presented by outgoing PICPA president Elmer Espiritu, kicked off the programme. It was followed by the recognition of the outgoing council officers and PICPA’s Board of Directors for their excellent leadership and unwavering support to the organisation.
Observing the social distancing requirements, the outgoing and incoming Presidents of PICPA Doha managed to capture a video of their symbolic handover in observance of PICPA’s long-standing tradition.
The induction and oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected PICPA council officers and associate volunteers was officiated by the PICPA National President Bato through the initiative of Lyndon Magsino, Chairman of PICPA’s Board of Directors.
“Let us keep rising in solidarity amidst these challenging times, continuously upholding the PICPA core values,” said Bato as he addressed all attendees through a live feed from the Philippines.
While Magsino said, “We, as PICPA leaders, have the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions and the compassion to listen to the needs of all our members. We are not elected to just be the officers but are chosen to be the leaders through the quality of our actions and integrity of our purpose.”
In his remarks, Philippine Labour Attache Dicang said, “Through these challenging and uncertain times, we need to alter our approach with more creativity and agility.”
The main highlight of the event was a webinar on Qatar’s Tax Update facilitated by
Senior Tax Manager Maria Bathan, CPA. The webinar provided an introduction of Qatar’s Dhareeba portal and clarifications on registration process. It also served to assist PICPA members comply with their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
Aside from Polido, the newly inducted set of council officers for fiscal year 2020-2021 are Abdul Rahim G. Gandamra as Senior Vice President, Christian Dave M. Barrameda as Vice President, Carmie Joy Bue as Secretary, Micha Lizette M. Pataueg as Treasurer, Karen Lucila as Auditor, John Vincent P. Gunita and Chubet Ann Villanueva as Accountants, and Hazel A. Abella as Public Relations Officer.
Aside from the aforementioned positions, PICPA Doha LLC(G) also has Chairpersons for various committees handled by Warren F. Molas for Continuing Professional Development, Venetia Claire C. Flores for Corporate Social Responsibility, Sherman C. Ilustre for Education, Paul Jason Jimenez for Community Affairs, Nikkolai Whitney Abella for Sports, Chester C. Mendoza and Liza D. Mancao for Ways and Means, Karish Laura T. Eletante for Social Media Relations, Wilnessa P. Dugang and Jizan R. Rasuman for Membership, and Michelle Eugene L. Baraquio for Corporate Governance and Compliance who is also the BOD Secretary.
Moreover, the newly inducted set of associate volunteers for fiscal year 2020-2021 are Eduardo A. Chavarria as Head – Committee on Associate Affairs, Federico F. Faldas as Deputy Head – Committee on Associate Affairs, Nicole Grace M. Baccay as Volunteer – Secretary.
Other volunteers for the following committees are Jinky C. Gale for Ways and Means, Mark Anthony M. Miraflores for Membership, Mary Ann Salubo for Education, Dennis B. Freyra for Community Affairs, Katherine M. Javier for Corporate Social Responsibility and Kimberlene M. Ocol for Events.
