The month of July in Qatar has brought good tidings on the front of the fight against the coronavirus disease ( COVID-19) pandemic. With the number of daily cases declining steadily, two Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) hospitals, Ras Laffan Hospital and Mesaieed Hospital, discharged their last group of recovered patients. Both Ras Laffan and Mesaieed Hospital were dedicated for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
The Minister of Public Health (MoPH) HE Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari met the last groups of patients as they were being discharged from the facilities.
The two hospitals had officially opened in April to beef up Qatar’s healthcare capacities to provide care for the COVID-19 patients. During her visit to the Mesaieed Hospital - as the last group of patients were being discharged - the minister said, “The transformation of Mesaieed Hospital from an empty facility into a busy hospital providing high-quality care to patients with COVID-19 has been quite remarkable. The final recovered patients leaving the hospital are the last of more than 6,170 patients to have been treated at Mesaieed Hospital over the past few months.
Since the outbreak they have worked hard to ensure that every patient with COVID-19 was able to quickly access the medical care they need. “Along with Ras Laffan and Libsear hospitals, and a field hospital in the Doha Industrial Area, Mesaieed hospital was converted into an advanced treatment facility for COVID-19 patients within a few weeks, significantly boosting the healthcare sector’s capacity, “ the minister said.
While the last batch of recovered COVID-19 patients were being discharged at Ras Laffan Hospital, the Minister said, “I was delighted to meet two of the final group of patients being discharged before they left Ras Laffan Hospital to return home. It is a testament to the high-quality medical care of the team at Ras Laffan and our other COVID-19 hospitals that Qatar has one of the lowest COVID-19 mortality rates in the world. I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the opening and operation of Ras Laffan Hospital over the past three months for their commitment and dedication.”
Talking about how the staff at the hospital kept going during the pandemic, Chief of Continuing Care Group and Acting CEO of Mesaieed Hospital Mahmoud S Al Rais, “I am proud to have been part of this exceptional team of healthcare professionals at Mesiaeed Hospital over the past few months. The circumstances we have faced have been unprecedented, yet as a team, we have risen to the many challenges that we have faced and overcome each and every one with distinction. Mesaieed Hospital has been a central part of HMC’s COVID-19 hospital network and with the last recovered patients leaving the hospital today we are now busy planning the opening of a range of routine services that will improve access to healthcare for the local community.”
