The Ordinary General Assembly of Umm Salal SC on Wednesday elected HE Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Thani as President of the club by acclamation for the 2020-2024 term, along with HE Sheikh Tamim bin Mohammad Al Thani as Vice-President.
The General Assembly was held at Barzan Youth Center amid precautionary and preventive measures in cooperation between the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and the quorum was completed with the presence of 44 out of 57 members.
The meeting was chaired by HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani, former club president, in the presence of HE Sheikh Tamim bin Mohammed Al Thani, Vice President and Head of the football team, Mohamed Salem Al Nuaimi, Executive Director of Umm Salal, and Ibrahim Al Najjar, representative of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
At the beginning of the meeting, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani thanked the members of the General Assembly for attending and their keenness on the interest of the club. He said that the club achieved good results in the past four years and was close to entering the top four in the league, but this season the team went through difficult circumstances, stressing that the club can get better in the next season. He wished success for the club during the coming period and for the new board of directors to achieve the ambitions and goals of Umm Salal.
His Excellency thanked the Ministry of Culture and Sports for the support of the club and all the club’s employees for their work in the past period and their constant endeavor to upgrade the club.
After announcing his victory by acclamation to head the club, HE Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said, “We have the vision to build a sports community inside the club, not just a football team, and there was a lengthy meeting with the age groups, and we have big dreams by developing a strategy and action plan for the club to achieve our goals.”
His Excellency pointed out that the club is looking for investments to find other sources of income, adding that Umm Salal will start some investment projects that will benefit the club. He explained that the club currently focuses on overcoming this difficult stage for the team and remain in the first division.
HE Sheikh Tamim bin Mohammad Al Thani wished the club success in the next stage, expressing thanks to HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani for his efforts during his presidency of the club. He wished HE Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Thani success in leading the club to achieve its goals.
